Rock ‘n’ Lace

Once considered the fabric choice of Victorian aunts, lace has evolved into statement worthy options sought by rockers and stylistas alike. Every fashion retailer and designer will offer lace in their Autumn collections. For a unique look mix it up – wear high street with Couture. There are no rules other than to make your own unique statement.

Ted Baker Nerrine $220
The romantic bohemian summer trends will transgress through to a tougher and edgier Fall – lace, leather and studs will grace everything from jackets through to footwear as represented by British power house – Alexander McQueen. Already evident in stores it will be to the British high street that I look for affordable statement pieces satisfying this genre. To maintain relevance juxtapose textures – lace takes on a whole new meaning when worn with a studded boots or a biker jacket.

Hmmm………… I think lace is a very tricky fabric to wear if you’re not a clever dresser? Lace garments are very popular with fashion & design students in the UK because they tend to buy a lot of their clothes from vintage and charity shops (my step-daughter being one of them). However, they don’t always get it right, when teamed up with an eclectic array of other cheap ‘billy bargains’ it looks a bit like a 3 year old playing dressing up with grannie’s sunday best!
Christine, I’m not sure I’ll be buying any lace this year unless of course you’re on hand to provide your expert fashionista advise. P x
To a point I agree – some have the knack of juxtaposing lace with other fabrics, others don’t quite get it right. I take the less is more approach. Last night while out at dinner I wore a lace blouse with jeans and wedges and the waitress took a real liking to it to the point I nearly took it off and gave it to her!
– although speaking personally – I have always found you to be an inspiration for throwing together a great look!
As much as all trends are not for everyone sometimes just going out on a limb and trying one piece can help you dip your toe into that particular trend pool.
So glad to hear that you have a budding fashion designer in the family
