Weekend Style – The Stripe Maxi!
The maxi skirt is set to continue throughout this summer as a much sought item. Last year I dabbled with a solid black version – I wasn’t 100% convinced it was something I could use especially as I harbor a cringe-worthy fashion trauma from the 80′s when my mother ‘styled’ me for the school disco in a wedgwood blue floral number from Woolworths at a time when maxi’s were so not in vogue…….and certainly not a Woollies version!! Mothers take note: these kind of memories haunt your beloved offspring for eternity.
So…..very recently I took a much needed retail therapy trip, along with Rachael, to Albuquerque’s Uptown BCBG store. Rach honed in on a stripe maxi which was on display with a soft grey sweater and fabulous double wrap hip belt in persimmon orange. We both had the skirt and belt placed in the fitting room – my belt choice was in a more classic cognac shade – along with several cashmere sweaters from the sale rack. I’ve gotta admit a stripe maxi was not at all on my agenda but the Karolin option was so flattering it was hard to resist especially when styled with the sweaters conveniently making for a “now” outfit!
Although seasonal trends see stripes leaning towards pairings with bright neons I personally like to treat stripes as the ‘statement’ to team with more neutral options……maybe this comes from the style faux pas from the 80′s although I would like to think I have put that behind me!
