The Art Of Travel

Norman Parkinson - The Art of Travel

The Art Of Travel by Christine Lockhart

L'Agence Olive Belted Dress sale $327

This iconic photograph taken by world-famous fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson, and aptly named ‘The Art of Travel’ is from a 1951 Vogue UK shoot. My mother gave me this print many years ago, as a gift to celebrate my love of fashion and my husbands of flying, and it has taken pride of place on the walls of our many homes during the 18 years we have been together.

There is something inspired about this image that continues to offer me a source of style reference. Model Wenda Rogerson was always the epitome of elegance beyond the garb yet her polished and timeless portrayal in this shoot is one that I continue to aspire to. I adore the modest femininity of the dress while attention to detail in the choice of accessories satisfy an “Out of Africa” safari flavor. Piece de resistance has to be the pith helmet…….oh and lets not forget the white gloves!

  1. Chris, it’s a beautiful print that dipicts a cool and classy style – just like you. I love the safari/military style dress that can be dressed up or down to suit any occasion. Not sure about the pith helmet – let me know when you get one 🙂

    • Thanks Polly! You have seen my style choices evolve over the years so I really take your comment as a compliment. As for the pith helmet…….well I said the same about cowboy boots and that is what I am currently living in. Never say never 🙂
